I'm teaching different types of verbs to my students. We're working on past, present and future tense verbs right now. I wrote a few sentences on the board and various students came up to underline the verb and identify the tense. It's hard to come up with random sentences on the spot, so I try to use names and actions that I can easily think of. These were a few of my sentences today.
Sheri will be in charge of the cakes.
Mark twirled Laurie around the dance floor.
Meredith is chatting with Tricia.
As you can see, I used past, present and future tenses in my examples! :)

I'm on a mission...
...for voter's information!
I know who I'm voting for in the presidential election. It's the others I'm not certain about. So I typed in "Texas Voter's guide" into my handy search engine and came across quite a bit of info. I think I'm set! I plan to stop tomorrow on the way home from work.
I've heard lines have been pretty long, so I want to have plenty of time and tomorrow is my opportunity!
Are you ready to vote?

Favorite Scent?
What's your favorite scent? If you could walk into your home or office and smell any scent, what would it be?
Yes, I'm asking you. I want comments, please!

Mystery to Men
Mindy has challenged me to reveal the contents of my purse. I have always found it amusing that this female accessory confounds men a bit, so I find this activity amusing as well. I'm up for it!
I carry different purses, depending on color of outfit or classy level of evening. The one for today is pretty straightforward. One large opening and one tiny zipper pocket.
Large opening:
Phone: never go anywhere without
billfold: a little larger than i'd like, but i haven't made it a priority to shop for a smaller one...this is one of those checkbook, credit card, cash, etc combinations
$10 starbucks gift card from student: well earned...believe me
orbit lemon lime gum: sweet mint is my favorite, but this purse has lemon lime for now
green pen: works well for grading (never know when i'm going to have a few extra minutes!)
$5 starbucks gift card: randomly received in mail
car keys: no explanation necessary
other keys with discount cards attached
hair clip, 2 pony tail holders and barrette
tavist-D: allergies have been bad lately
small zipper pocket:
lip liner
lip gloss
feminie hygiene product
pain killer (Laurie's experience of falling down the stairs taught me this is another item to never leave home without!)
As I've put everything back into my purse, I've slightly reorganized and moved the hair accessories and tavist-D to the small zipper pocket as well: gives me more room in the large pocket!

Funk
I'm in a funk. I don't totally understand it myself and am trying, desperately, to rely on the Lord for truth instead of my feelings, which are deceptive. Over the past week, I've been angry, tearful, hurt, ticked off, and just down in the dumps. Most of these emotions have been over things that would normally be slightly frustrating, but not preemptive of the extreme feelings that have been occurring. It's frustrating, because I think I'm usually a fairly even-keeled person. I mean, I don't usually have major mood swings.
I'm rambling, so I'm going to try to streamline some of my consciousness. :)
I have two friends at work whom I'm praying salvation. The Lord has laid their lostness on my heart and I'm saddened for them. I pray the Lord keeps my heart sensitive to their eternity.
I have yet another sinus infection. I'm hopeful a new medicine will help this to happen less and less. Due to the sinus infection, I have no energy and am thus tired and slightly cranky.
My car is having some issues. My battery light comes on first thing of a morning, but goes off after about a minute. I've taken it in and they've test the (BRAND NEW) battery and can't find anything wrong with it. The alternator is also brand new. Everyone says "As long as it's going off, there isn't a problem." but my car is shuddering as we back out and I always feel like it's going to die on me. I hate having car issues and, honestly, during them is when I feel my singleness in a very acute way.
I'm still rambling. Even though I'm trying to streamline. So I'm going to stop now.

No comprende
I don't speak the language of "man." I just don't get it. I say one thing. He hears something else. And vice versa.

Praise to an Unasked Prayer
God is so good! I don't ever give Him enough credit and that saddens me. But today I'm praising Him for a blessing. Something I didn't even ask Him for!
A year ago I moved into a different apartment after a leak in my former apartment ruined my laptop. Due to this move, the apartment complex had given me a VERY good rate for the new apartment. About six weeks ago, I received a letter telling me it was time to sign a new lease and the amount for rent each month was included. It was a drastic increase from my current rent, but I was expecting that because it was the going rate for the apartment.
Today, I went in to sign paperwork and was told the amount on the letter was a mistake. There was no way they were going to raise my rent that much and would _____ be agreeable. "YES!" My rent is still going up, but only a fraction of what I thought it was going up. And I didn't even ask!
Thank you Lord!

Too many shows!
Season premieres have happened, and I missed most of them. I arrived home about 4:00 today and decided to play catch up. I enjoy my shows and they seem to get better and better each season. However, there are just too many of them! I don't have DVR or TeVo and don't have any plans to get either. I like Netflix, because I can watch my favorite dramas in spurts, but then I'm missing out on the ones out now!
Too many shows, too much life to live! Isn't that just the problem? I know some people that fill up a DVR with so many recordings that it takes days to watch them all. Are we so obsessed with television, we're forgetting to live life? Don't get me wrong. I like a good laugh or heart stopping crime scene just as much as the next CSI-loving gal. But I admit there are times, I've chosen not to answer the phone because I was watching "one of my shows." Is that completely wrong? No, I don't think it is. But it can be.

Gourds
It's officially Fall! I love Autumn for so many reasons. I'm not usually a big holiday decorator, but with fall I have patio decorations and even a few things to spread around my apartment and classroom. I just enjoy the feeling of festivity. I bought two gourds and a mini pumpkin at Kroger yesterday. I'm not totally please with the arrangement right now and plan to work with it some more today. I'll post pictures when I'm finished.
I want to bake something in accordance with the season, but am ambivalent as to what that will be. I may post pictures if I actually make a decision. :)

Tidbits
I haven't blogged in awhile.
Yesterday was a pretty rough day at work. My friends are wonderful and the Lord is good at all times!
Campho-Phenique leaks no matter how tightly it's closed. I flew over the weekend and came home with all my bottles of liquid covered in campho. I placed them on a towel on the side of my tub so they could dry out until I had a chance to clean them all up. When I got up to pee in the middle of the night, I accidentally bumped them all into the tub. 2:30 in the morning is not really an appropriate time to be wide awake, but a loud crash usually does that.
I had 65 blogs to read according to Google Reader since I was gone for a few days. Angie Smith (see sidebar) makes me laugh in just about every post. Sometimes I cry too.
Due to the Hurricane and then being out of town, I have several piles of papers to grade and plan to work late to get caught up. The problem is my students create more work to grade each day! I'm feeling pretty behind!
I left my driver's license in the bank teller tube yesterday.
Yesterday was payday. After totalling my paycheck to my bank balance, I have $79. That's not a good number on the day of payday!
Turkey wraps from Jason's Deli are really good!
